Role And Efficacy Of Social Media Marketing 

According certain findings 80% of companies use LinkedIn to recruit employees to their organization and also Facebook, Blogs, and YouTube are becoming important and easiest techniques that attract many of the target audience to a business (Edosomwan, Prakasan, Kouame, Watson & Seymour, 2011).

In USA the percentage of adults engaging in Facebook increased from 5% in 2005 to 69% by 2018, therefore the usage of social media is increasing very rapidly due to which this industry to bound to become bigger and big in the future

The main reason for Social media marketing to be an important role in current marketing context is as follow;
  • It helps to boost more web traffic since a vast number of audience has access to almost every social media platform the business generates in
  •  Enable to engage in relationship marketing with the audience by understanding, updating, and replying inquiries and solving problems within few seconds.
  •  Capability to build brand loyalty among the consumers by providing them with high levels of customers service by prioritizing based on their needs and providing them with information, help and entertainment.
  • Ability to slay competition by developing an effective voice and strategy which cannot be matched by the competitors.

Did you know 71% of the consumers are most likely to recommend a brand based on the experience they have with their social media, Therefore it is very much important for social media marketers to have and improve in the below mentioned skills. 

 1.       Creativity

It is being different, eye catching, having a sense of humor and ability to improvise in a given situation (Chenn, 2017). If a social media marketer lacks in this skill it is going to effect the traffic flow of audience to the media sites and also the consumers are more likely to swipe you content as they perceive it to be boring and unattractive.

2.       Engagement Skills

Take a look at our school life and life after school, basically our school is known as our second home we make new friends there, we engage and interact with each other through studies and extra-curricular activities but once we are done with schools we tend to lose connections with most of those friends since we don’t meet them as often as we do and also everyone is busy with their life after school.

This scenario is also similar to a social media marketer who lacks in engagement with the audience. Therefore it is very important for the social media marketer to be active on social media by responding to the customers as soon as possible, listening to them and making improvements and updating them always in order to hold on to these customers and also generate good word of mouth to attract new customers

    3.    Copy writing skills

A social media marketer is not supposed to write full lengthy articles about the specific situations but should always keep in mind to grab the attention of their consumers by keeping their descriptions short, simple and understandable. (Chenn, 2017).

Over here the marketer should not always try to market the product but also they should try to formulated a bond between the brand and the end user by relating their products to the end user, using magnetic headlines. storytelling and focusing on benefits over features which would lead to top of the mind awareness among the consumers 

     4.    Adaptability 

Instagram, when introduced was a platform where only one picture could be posted at a time, then after some time posting of videos, multiple pictures and videos, instagram stories which lasted for 24 hours and highlights and filters were introduced gradually.

Therefore the marketer must study these changes and stay on top of these social media trends in order to attract more audience and slay competition.

    5.      Time Scheduling

According to my observations in Sri Lanka the best time to post a picture would be after three in the evening as everyone will be done with school and work and scrolling through their social media for some entertainment.

As a marketer you should have a proper scheduling based on the hours and the frequency of posting as it will save your valuable time, easing your stress and  lead to the top of the mind awareness of the audience without bombarding them with too much of posts.


Since this is a two way communication platform consumers has the autonomy to either accept or reject your brand, therefore as a marketer it’s your responsibility to provide them with a memorable experience while forming positive relationships.
